Charity of the year 2024 – Stockport and District Mind
Stockport and District Mind is an independent mental health charity that provides advice, advocacy, support and services to all people resident in the Stockport Metropolitan Borough and adjacent areas who are experiencing poor mental health, to enable and empower them to live with, manage and where possible recover from their condition. As well as supporting their family, friends, and carers.
Set up by a group of volunteers in 1971, they are affiliated with national Mind, one of the leading mental health charities in England and Wales.
Charity of the year 2023- The Christie at Macclesfield
The Christie at Macclesfield benefits patients from Cheshire, the High Peak area of Derbyshire and parts of North Staffordshire who would normally have to travel long distances for their cancer treatment at The Christie meaning they will be able to receive their treatment closer to home.
The cancer centre opened in December 2021 and provides a range of holistic services including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, counselling services, an information centre, palliative care and a wider range of clinical trials.
In total our team raised over £18,000 in 2023 for The Chrisite at Macclesfield.
Skydive
Fourteen members of our team took part in a sponsored skydive and leapt from heights of up to 15,000ft, raising a notable £11,000 which exceeded our target.
Sponsored runs
Three of our colleagues took part in various running events including partner and joint head of our Congleton office Helen Gowin who participated in the Manchester 10k, solicitor Kirsty Armstrong ran the Great North Run, and conveyancer Natalie Beard took part in the Manchester Half Marathon.
Other fundraising
Our colleagues worked hard throughout the year on various fundraising activities including ‘Blue Day’, cake sales, Christmas jumper day, and raffles, plus additional donations from clients.
